Fashion Week Paris: Balenciaga, Pedro Lourenço, Nina Ricci + Redken

30 Sep

By Christabelle…

Redken Creative Consultant Guido  kicked off Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 yesterday with three very wearable styles, creating easy, textured looks to match the highly designed, structured Balenciaga and Pedro Lourenço  collections, and a beautiful charming pony to match Nina Ricci’s feminine, flirtatious collection.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created two looks to match the ultra chic, Space Age-inspired  Balenciaga collection yesterday. “The collections at Balenciaga are always very elaborate so we worked on a very easy hairstyle.  What’s cool about it is we’re creating a new type of texture, it’s not quite as rich as “beachy waves” although similar- it’s really a bit tougher in texture. It’s as if the girl hasn’t bothered with her hair but is wearing the most amazing, designed clothes.  We also cut fringe on about six girls for the show which looked super cool with the clothes.”

–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam

- All Soft Argan-6 Multi-care oil ( launches October 2011)

Create the Look:

-On damp hair, apply guts and rough dry about 80% and let the rest dry naturally to bring out the natural texture and movement.

-On about 6 models, Guido created a left side part and cut fringe on an angle covering the right eye.

-On the remaining models, Guido created a messy center part.

-Finish by running a small amount of Argan-6 though the hair to remove any frizz.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a very Parisian style yesterday at the Nina Ricci show, matching her collection, designed as always for a woman who wants to be ladylike and sexy at the same time.  “Nina Ricci is a very feminine house and we wanted the models to wear a very feminine style.  The soft ponytail is simple but a little bourgeois feeling, and was inspired by Catherine Deneuve – a style women would love to wear.”

–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

- Velvet gelatine 07 cushioning blow-dry gel

- All Soft Argan-6 Multi-care oil (see fact sheet attached – launches October 2011)

- Spray starch 15 versatile ironing spray

- Fashion work 12 versatile working spray

Create the Look:

-Apply velvet gelatine 07 cushioning blow-dry gel  to damp hair and blow-dry with a round brush.

-Create a bit of volume at the crown by blow-drying the area away from the scalp.

-Apply All Soft Argan-6 Multi-care oil throughout hair once dry for a smoothing effect.

-Pull hair into a low ponytail, secure with an elastic and wrap a piece of hair around the elastic to cover.

-Lightly apply spray starch to the ends of the ponytail.  With a 1” curling iron, curl the ends.

-Finish with fashion work 12 versatile working spray.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido  also styled young up-and-coming Brazilian designer Pedro Lourenço’s fourth Paris show yesterday. The collection was composed of sporty jackets, slim skirts, and cropped pants in a mix of very modern materials inspired by ecological architecture, showing off the designer’s advanced technical skills.  “The collection included very futuristic clothing, and when the clothes are so designed, it’s best to do a very easy look.  The style we collaborated on is a half up half down ponytail so it looks like the girl could have done it herself.”

–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

-Satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion

-Nature’s Rescue Radiant Sea Spray

Create the Look:

-Apply satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion to damp hair and rough dry.

-Create a messy center part.

-Pull into a low ponytail with an elastic – on the 3rd turn of the elastic, only pull the hair out about 1/3 of the way through so you create a little bump shape with the ends out.

-Apply Nature’s Rescue Sea Spray to the hair that left out of the shape to create a natural texture.

Fashion Week Milan: Alberta Ferretti + Redken

22 Sep

By Christabelle…

Redken Creative Consultant Guido kicked off Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 earlier today at the Alberta Ferretti show by creating a “hippie, beachy” look featuring a shiny and almost wet texture which he says is “more exciting than dry hair at the moment.”

“When Alberta and I met, we decided we wanted the hair down and to look very innocent, but with some edge.  The collection features beautiful dresses and so the girls needed to feel easy and young, and not too “mumsy.”  We used Redken All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care oil to add shine during the blow-dry, overused shine flash 02 glistening mist to add tons of shine (almost a wet look) to the hair, and finished with forceful 23 hairspray to clean up the hair line and make it very tight to the head.”

–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

-              All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil

-              Shine flash 02 glistening mist

-              Forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

Create the Look:

Note: All models’ hair length was mid-way down the back for this style.

-Apply All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil to damp hair and blow-dry.

-Create a clean center part.

-Use a curling iron to create some bend in the hair.

-“Overuse” and apply shine flash 02 glistening mist to the lengths of hair to make it look almost wet.

-Spray forceful 23 hairspray all over the crown of the head to make the hair around the face very clean and remain in place.

About Redken All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil
This omega-6 enriched, fair trade argan oil formula envelops hair in concentrated softness, nourishment and protection.  All Soft Argan-6 Oil can be used six different ways to dramatically transform the texture of dry, brittle hair:

2.      ILLUMINATE: Styling Shine Booster

3.      SOFTEN: Treatment Booster

On Dry Hair
4.      MOISTURIZE: Pre-Shampoo Treatment

5.      SMOOTH: Post Blow-Dry Perfector

Matrix Hair Pros Predict Four Key Trends…

21 Sep

By Christabelle…

What will be the hottest hairstyle trends?  Based on the looks spotted at New York Spring 2012 Fashion Week, as well as Sunday night’s annual Emmy Awards, Ammon Carver, Nick Stenson and Franco Della Grazia—professional artists for Matrix, the leading professional haircare and haircolor company in the U.S.–have identified four key trends which they believe will influence celebrities and style conscious women everywhere.

Giddy, Glamorous Waves:

Hollywood glamour waves, tossed exuberantly over one shoulder, topped many of the sassy, sexy style collections during Fashion Week.  According to Matrix Artistic Designer Franco Della Grazia, who created looks like this for designer Betsey Johnson, this “glam-with-whimsy” feeling is perfect for lighthearted spring styles and will undoubtedly be embraced by celebrity style divas like Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez.  The styles are characterized by deep side parts and crisply defined waves.  Hair is swept over one shoulder and pinned behind the ear to keep strands in place.

These high class waves will be complemented by bombshell colors—like vixen red, smoky brunette and “platinum card” blonde.  To maintain vivid color, Della Grazia recommends products created specifically for color-treated hair, like Matrix Total Results Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner.  “These formulas help preserve brilliant color, even after 45 washes,” he notes.  To add crisp definition to waves while taming frizz and flyaways, he suggests a combination of styling cream and shine-enhancing serum like Matrix Design Pulse Loosely Defined Texture Crème and Mix In Shine Brilliant Serum.

Mad, Mod Beehives

The beehive is back, declares Matrix Artistic Director Ammon Carver, but with a twist.  “At shows like Diane Von Furstenberg,” he explains, “high bouffants evoked the cool retro elegance of Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks. But rather than traditional sleek and solid shapes, these hives are roughed up and romantic—with lots of texture and even wisps and flyaways.” A two-toned color scheme—darker on the sides, lighter on top–give these styles a punk-rock spin. Light teasing is essential when creating these looks and the ideal tools are a product like Matrix Vavoom ShapeMaker Medium Hold Hairspray.

Patent Leather Ponies

Ponytails will gleam next season, says Nick Stenson, Matrix Artistic Director—a trendy, high-shine finish was popular with designers like Derek Lam.  Inspired by the sleek style of celebrities like Kate Bosworth and Gwyneth Paltrow, “the finish on these styles is so glamorous,” says Stenson.  “It’s like the intense reflection you’d see on an Italian sports car.”  Close fitting, neat and chic, shiny ponytails will be the perfect punctuation for many of spring’s clean, timeless sportswear collections.  Stenson recommends combining Matrix Design Pulse Glow to Pieces Shine Wax and Mix In Shine Brilliant Serum to damp hair to produce high shine.  And he adds, “It requires healthy, well-hydrated strands to wear this look well.” Try Matrix Total Results Moisture Cure 2-Phase Treatment.

Scalloped Edges

Braids have played a predominant role in hair styles for several seasons and the trend continues according to Della Grazia.  For spring, look for plump and glossy braids edging hairlines, as shown by designer Lela Rose, where they provided a folksy framework for the designer’s easy and elegant fashions.  “There were many extremely feminine silhouettes, prints and colors in the season’s collections,” comments Della Grazia, “and a single accent braid embellishes these styles beautifully.”   The look is likely to be sported by boho-chic celebrities like Mandy Moore, Nicole Richie, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.  “Braids are best when they’re smooth and defined,” remarks Della Grazia.  He recommends Matrix Total Results Curl Super DeFrizzer Gel and Sleek Silk Wonder Smoothing Oil on damp hair.

The hair at Ralph Lauren was clean, simple and modern- the epitome of the Ralph Lauren woman.  “The look is easy sophistication achieved by a ponytail.  It’s very elegant but not forced.  It’s just about true beauty and a luxurious look.”

–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

- Take a small section of the hair and wrap around the elastic to cover the elastic.

- Finish with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to smooth the flyaway’s.

Hair by Redken at Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2012 FWNYC

The look at Calvin Klein was pure, natural, and simple. “This look is supposed to appear as if each girl was just wearing her hair naturally. It’s very Calvin Klein, it’s very beautiful, and we don’t see it very often; it’s refreshing.”

–Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

- Nature’s Rescue Radiant Sea Spray

Create the Look:

-Spray Nature’s Rescue Radiant Sea Spray onto wet hair and let air dry

-Guido used a 1-inch curling iron on very straight hair to create slight bend if there was none

Hair by Redken at Marc Jacobs Collection Spring/Summer 2012 FWNYC

At Marc Jacobs, Guido created an up-twist that was a nod to the 1960’s with a hint of inspiration from the 1920’s.  Guido’s team added irregular bangs to the models (pre-prepped bang hair pieces, not cutting their actual hair) and side burns; some of the models also wore hair pieces in the show.  “This look was inspired by Sweet Charity and resembles a 1960’s girl who was dancing all night.”
– Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:

-satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion

-forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

Step-by-Steps:

-Apply satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion to damp hair and rough dry to add texture into the hair

-At this point, Guido’s team added irregular bangs to the models (pre-prepped bang hair pieces, not cutting their actual hair) and side burns.  If the woman doesn’t have bangs, she can skip to the next step.

-Create a small left side part about an inch back from the hairline.

-Pull the rest of the hair into a French twist and secure with bobby pins.

-Spray the entire shape with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to both secure the hair in place. The overuse of this product gives the hair a wet look.

-Comb the front bangs close to the head and apply a few bobby pins to keep the hair close to the head, finish this section with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray.

FIVE tips to avoid letting financial issues ruin your relationship

15 Sep

By Christabelle…

Topic: FIVE tips to avoid letting financial issues ruin your relationship.   According to most studies, financial issues are the # 1 cause for divorce.

Expert:  Dani Johnson, a personal financial expert featured on Oprah and The View this year, has inspired tens of thousands to pay off 100M in debt and improve their relationships.  Dani’s new book “First Steps to Wealth” is available for free at www.danijohnson.com. We LOVE free :)

1)            THE ENEMY IS NOT YOUR SPOUSE IT IS YOUR DEBT.  Debt can be overpowering, you work all month just to dig yourself deeper in debt, increasing stress, which leads to fighting that can destroy your relationship and your happiness.  STOP! The enemy is not each other; the enemy is your debt and it is time to declare a war on it together.

2)            LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS, RICH PEOPLE GO BANKRUPT, TOO: Whether you are worth $5M or make a modest salary, you need to live within your means.  For the average American, there are simple and proven techniques that work.  One example:  stop wasting thousands of dollars each month on food you don’t need.  Eat every item in your fridge and pantry before you go shopping and you will save THOUSANDS each month.  I feed my family of eight on $100 per week.

3)            PROSPER WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED: Whether you are a small business owner, an entrepreneur, or work in corporate America you need to learn to prosper where you are planted.  Blaming your spouse, your parents or your boss will not fix your problems.  The debt fairy is not coming.  It is time to stop complaining and get to work.

4)            TURN THE BLACKBERRY OFF: Work as hard at your home life as you do at the office!  Set aside time completely devoted to your wife, husband and kids.  Don’t take business calls or even think about business.   This not only reminds you how much you love each other but will recharge your batteries so you are itching to go back to work to kick butt.

5)            COMMUNICATE AND DO NOT COMMIT FINANCIAL INFIDELITY:  A poll recently commissioned by ForbesWomen showed that 31% of Americans lie to their spouses about money.  This is the fastest way to sabotage your relationship.  Sit down with each other, figure out where you can trim back and set goals for yourselves.  Money should not tear you apart.  If you are open and honest with each other, you can overcome these issues together and it will make you stronger.
